Apples & Bananas Face Mask

Here's the truth: I'm obsessed with DIY masks. Walking up and down the skin care isle in Target gives me anxiety. I don't know what those ingredients are or what they're going to do to my skin. What I do know is that lemon juice is good for taking the color out of red spots and egg whites tighten my pores. These are facts I can actually work with. It's so satisfying to throw together a few ingredients, slap it on my face and have totally revitalized skin after just a half hour.

I have a few favorite masks, but this weekend I decided I wanted to try out something new. Tom and I picked up some apple cider vinegar for a donut recipe we were testing out a few weeks ago. We only used about a teaspoon out of the entire bottle so I thought I'd see if what I had left could do my skin some good. After some research I found that apple cider vinegar has countless health benefits and has been found to clear skin of blackheads and blemishes. "Perfect!" I thought to myself. I scrounged around in my cabinet and gathered a few fairly regular weapons in my arsenal--cinnamon for exfoliating, honey and bananas for moisturizing.

I threw them all together and loved the results!

All you need is:

1 banana, 4 tbsp honey, 2 tsp cinnamon, 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar

Just mash up your banana, pour in the other ingredients, and mix it all up. This recipe makes 5-7 "servings" and will hold for about a week. When using it apply a thin layer and leave it on for 30 minutes. The cinnamon commonly causes a slight burning sensation. This isn't anything to worry about, but it can cause some redness. I promise it'll go away, and the honey and banana balance it with amazing moisture.
