Dollar Store Candle Makeover

Today has been gray and rainy. By the time 3 o'clock rolled around I was in serious need of a giant cup of coffee or a serious nap. I knew that neither would really be very good for me, so instead of giving in to the weather and my lack of sleep I decided to push forward to today's project. Let me tell you, I'm so glad that I did!

A few weeks ago I went with a friend to the dollar store. She was looking for picture frames, and I was just along for the ride. What I discovered what the the dollar store is chock full crafting potential. I picked up two tall, plain white candles and told myself that I figure out something really great to do with them. Yesterday inspiration struck.

One of these candles is serving as a book end on what I loving refer to as my "Harry Potter shelf". These books are incredibly meaningful to the aspiring writer in me, and I love to incorporate quotes and passages from them into my decorating. What I realized yesterday is that this candle was a blank canvas just waiting to be brought to life by my favorite characters! Once I finally picked a passage the project was so easy, and I absolutely love the finished product.

All you need is a candle in a plain glass container; a passage from a favorite book, song, movie, whatever; some acetone nail polish remover and a paper towel; and a Sharpie.

Once you have your supplies just find a steady surface and get busy! The best part is that you don't have to worry about messing up. Not only will the acetone remove any residue from your candle's label, it will also let you easily wipe away any mistakes. I started four times before I found a layout that worked for me.

This project was so simple, but it really served as a pick-me-up for both my mood and motivation. I'm just reminded once again how important it is to take a few moments each day and refuel. Whether it's reading, writing, crafting, going for a walk, or anything else that makes you feel refreshed, make sure to allow yourself that time.

Are you going to try this idea? What passage or text would you use?
